FAQs
What is a session like?
Typically, sessions are done with the client in underwear or a bathing suit. Your practitioner may observe your standing and moving postures to assess balance, alignment, mobility and movement patterns.
Changes in posture and structure are achieved by manipulating the body's myofascial system.
Massage practitioners use a range of techniques to lengthen and reposition the fascia and the body. The amount of pressure used and techniques applied varies. A practitioner may use slow, deep, stretching movements, or constant applied pressure. As tissue is being released, you may experience a variety of sensations similar to warm and pleasant. Your practitioner will apply appropriate pressure during the session based on your feedback so the pace of the session is under your control. Sometimes, as the tissue is released and balanced, clients experience the release of emotions, memories or traumas that have been stored in the fascial tissue.
Structural Integration and Therapeutic Massage is typically performed over multiple sessions with the intention of systematically releasing the myofascial tissue. Each session builds upon the last, addressing layers of tissue throughout the process.
Before the Massage
Your comfort, well being and privacy are of utmost importance.
- At your first session you will be asked to complete a brief health history form. The information on the health history form combined with a discussion of your expectations and goals for massage help me tailor the session to best meet your needs.
- During this intake process, feel free to ask any questions you may have. This intake process is usually not a lengthy proceedure unless there are serious medical/health issues of which I need to be made aware. There is no charge for any additional time this intake requires and there is enough time between your session and the next person to allow for a full 60 or 90 minute hands on massage session (whichever you have chosen).
- Any information you provide whether verbally or on the health information form, will be kept in strictest confidence out of respect for you and your privacy, and according to government HIPAA regulations.
- After this initial discussion, I will leave the room so you may prepare for the massage in privacy.
During the Massage
- As the massage begins simply allow your body to sink down into the table and breathe gently. If there are areas of your body that you prefer not to have massaged for any reason, please tell me. You may tell me before the session begins or during the session. You do not need to explain or justify your reasons.
- Please do not feel you must carry on a conversation. This time is for you to just "be". However, if you would like deeper or lighter pressure at any time during your massage, please tell me. If you are cold or too warm, or would like a pillow, please tell me that as well so I can make sure you are comfortable.
After the Massage
- It is helpful to drink a couple extra glasses of water during the next 24 to 36 hours. This helps flush out the cellular waste material that has been mobilized during the massage.
- Thank you for allowing me to work with you. I hope your session was pleasant and helpful.
- You are always welcome to come back again.
